Polydextrose is extensively used in pharmaceutical and food industries as a replacement product for regular sugar as it carries lower calorie content. It is basically a polymer of D-glucose, sorbitol, and citric acid which is used to replace sugar, to increase the nondietary fiber content of food and to reduce fat content.
